The Armenta family of Murfreesboro has entered a cooking contest that could result in cash prizes for them and their child’s school, Whitworth-Buchanan Middle School.
The family’s daughter, Delaney Armenta, attends the school and has entered the Uncle Ben’s Beginners Cooking Contest, a movement designed to help children learn to make healthier choices, at an early age, by getting them interested in cooking.
Parents with children who are in kindergarten through eighth grade were asked to submit a home video that showed the family together in the kitchen introducing a rice-based dish they prepared and discussing their experience cooking together. The contest received hundreds of entries from families throughout the country.
In an effort to help the Armenta family strengthen their score and give them an opportunity to be chosen as a finalist, they are asking the community to vote for the video they submitted titled “Hamburger and Rice Casserole.”
From Oct. 9-27, individuals can view all the contest videos and vote for their favorite by visiting http://www.unclebens.com and searching for the recipe name (The best way to find the video is to enter the zip code 37127). Individuals are encouraged to vote once per 24 hours.
If selected as a grand prize winner, the Armenta family will receive $15,000 cash and a $30,000 cafeteria makeover for Whitworth-Buchanan Middle School. Two members of the Armenta family will also appear on “The Rachael Ray Show!”
