MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – On your mark! Get Ready! Set! GO! The seventh annual Murfreesboro Half Marathon (“The Middle Half”) and Murph’s Fun Run, presented by St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital, will be held Oct. 12.
The race sold out in a record two hours and 11 minutes with 3,000 registered participants.
The 13.1-mile race is scheduled to start at 7 a.m. with a wheelchair race start at 6:55 a.m. Because the race courses by an obelisk at the geographic center of Tennessee, and begins and ends at MTSU, it has been tagged “The Middle Half.”
The course meanders swiftly down scenic tree-lined East Main Street and Maney Avenue to Oaklands Historic House Museum. Runners will circle the Rutherford County Courthouse on the Square, pass by MTSU’s Fraternity Row and the obelisk on Old Lascassas Highway before finishing on the MTSU track.
Held in conjunction with the Murfreesboro Half Marathon, Murph’s Fun Run is a one- mile course for kids ages 6 to 13. Participants will start at 7:15 a.m. and will finish on the MTSU track and will receive a finisher’s medal, t-shirt and refreshments. Murph will be on hand to award the “Spirit Award” to the child showing the most enthusiasm.
The Murfreesboro Half Marathon partners with the City of Murfreesboro to enable the race to happen. The Police Department and the Parks and Recreation Department resources and personnel are heavily utilized during the race and in the planning stages.
