For the Prevention of Child Abuse
Nashville, Tenn. (November 12, 2013) – Our Kids is proud to participate in the 19 days of activism with other important community partners who are also responsible for responding to allegations of child sexual abuse.
Our Kids is an essential part of the response to child sexual abuse, providing forensic medical evaluations and crisis counseling, assessment and referral for children and their caregivers throughout Middle Tennessee. Each year, Our Kids evaluates over 900 children. 68% of these children are seven years of age or younger. Half of these children require testing for infection and STDs.
The Our Kids clinical team comprised of nurse practitioners and social workers are on-call 24/7 to respond to emergencies. The Our Kids clinical team members attend nine Child Protective Investigative Team meetings in 8 eight different counties each month to ensure that every child who needs a referral for an evaluation gets the services they need. Our Kids also provides trainings to community partners.
Last fiscal year, Our Kids evaluated 75 children from the 16th judicial district including Rutherford and Cannon Counties. Murfreesboro Police Chief and current Chair of the Child Advocacy Center of Rutherford County Board of Directors stated, “The child advocacy center is proud to have Our Kids as a community partner in our ongoing effort to provide investigative support and assistance for victims of child sexual abuse and their families. We look forward to working with Our Kids and continuing to provide outstanding services to victims of child sexual abuse in Rutherford and Cannon Counties.”
