MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – On the heels of being named a candidate for the Karl Malone Award, given annually to the top power forward in the country, Nick King has again been awarded Conference USA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
The senior forward has won the award four times in the 2017-18 season (Nov. 20, Dec. 11 and Dec. 26), the only player in C-USA to do so this season.
King led the Blue Raiders to an undefeated week, beating Rice and North Texas in the Murphy Center. In those two games, the Memphis native averaged 23.5 points and 8.5 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from three.
Against North Texas, he matched his career high with a 32-point outburst to extend Middle Tennessee’s win streak to seven games. His 23 points in the first half against the Mean Green also tied his career high for points in a half.
King also contributed 11 rebounds, marking his eighth double-double of the season.
In conference play, the lefty has averaged 19.5 points (5th best in CUSA) and 9.4 rebounds (2nd best).
The Blue Raiders look to inch closer to a second consecutive regular season title in Conference USA when they hit the road this week to play Southern Miss and LA Tech.
